Holyoke: Holyoke Public Library

Incorporated in 1870, the Holyoke Public Library began as the Holyoke Library Corporation. When it moved to its current location in 1902, President William Whiting dedicated it as the “People’s College,” encouraging patrons to browse in the stacks for the first time. In 2013, a renovation restored the 1902 building to its former grandeur, complimented by a new contemporary wing. For more information about the library’s mission and services, attentive to outreach and an increasingly multicultural community, visit http://www.holyokelibrary.org/index.asp.
